Jacobson traded to Dallas (not for Seitz)

The Philadelphia Union traded midfielder Andrew Jacobson to FC Dallas in exchange for a 2nd round draft pick in 2013.

Jacobson started 13 games for the U in 2010, logging 18 shots, 8 on goal. He became extra parts when The Union acquired Brian Carroll as their 18th center midfielder (kidding!) (kinda) during the offseason.

Philadelphia receives Dallas’ natural 2nd rounder in 2013.

Through Dallas’ website, head coach Schellas Hyndman said of Jacobson, “I’m very happy to have Andrew join FC Dallas. He’s a very good player, a center midfielder who will also go back in defense. He brings size to the team, but he’s also got very good soccer feet and might seem like a 5’10” player rather than his actual 6’2”. He comes from a great program under Kevin Grimes at Cal, and I see him contributing to this team immediately.”

Jacobson was a fan favorite in Philadelphia thanks to his hard tackling and high workrate. He played in the middle and on the outside but never settled into a consistent role in Peter Nowak’s system.

Oh, you wanted analysis? This deal means that the Union brass must like what they’re seeing from Okugo in preseason. Jacobson was Amobi’s biggest competition for minutes in and around Carroll. Is the teenager ready to step up and log big minutes this season with Jacobson out of the mix?

Finally, kudos to Damon Eleuterius for being the first commenter on the Union’s website about this deal and going with: “This is crap. I know we are crowded but come on.” Classic Damon.

  1. Ed Farnsworth says:

We can have up to 30 players on the roster, right?

  2. Don’t really get this one but it’s probably to pave the way for another addition.

Agreed on Okugo but I think Jacobson was making league minimum salary so why not have the extra depth if he’s a good player?

  3. I’ll miss ya, AJ8.

  4. Yeah, would have liked to have seen more from Jacobson, particularly since he wasn’t given much of chance last season.

  5. Agreed Damon. Total crap. 1000 more minutes of Migs. WHY?!?!

  6. I’m still going to watch and wait for him to hit one of his rocket shots. Why are we thinning out are roster so much? 24 man roster does not gives us much depth, again.

  7. Good riddance. Fan favorite?? That is puzzling the guy is a turnover machine with limited up-side.

  8. Nice parenthetical in the title.
