Bring ’em on!

The Philadelphia Union announced on Monday the opening home and away games of the 2011 season.

Or more precisely, the opening away and home games.

The Union will start the 2011 season away against Houston Dynamo on Saturday, March 19 at 8:30pm.

On Saturday, March 26 at 4pm, the Union will welcome the Vancouver Whitecaps into the league at PPL Park.

MLS also announced that the opening match of the season will feature Seattle Sounders hosting LA Galaxy. The 9:30pm game will be shown live on ESPN.

No word yet from the Union on who will televise the Union’s first two games.

On May 29, 2010, the Union defeated Houston 3–2 to secure their first road win. The Union drew with Houston 1–1 at home on October 2, 2010.

  1. Can the Union repeat on their road win against Houston from last season? Helluva way to open the 2011 campaign. And to have the home opener as a way to “welcome” Salinas back to Seaport Drive … seems the soccer-scheduling gods have a twisted sense of humor. I guess we don’t know if the 6abc/LiveWell broadcast agreement is still in effect.

It sucks the Union have to open on the road again but I guess it helps that it’s against the team the Union beat for their first road win. That goal Salinas scored against Houston was my MLS goal of the year. I hope he doesn’t hurt us.
