Four have died after a rebel assault on the Togo national soccer team, including goalkeeper Kodjovi Obilale, prompting the team to withdraw from the African Cup of Nations in Angola. (Update: Togo decides to stay. Togo’s request to return to tournament turned down.)

This is a huge blow for African soccer, coming months before the continent’s first World Cup in South Africa, and a major tragedy.
