Casa Soccer League roundup — week 9

Real Optimus shut out Philadelphia Athletic 3-0 on Saturday to win the regular season title in the Casa Soccer League’s second division. Leland Raum scored two goals, and Nick Jennings added another to earn Real Optimus promotion to Casa’s Primera division next spring.

Real Optimus came into the match sitting in second place, needing some help from Cannons FC, who were set to play then-division leader Philly United. Cannons FC answered by knocking off Philly United 3-1 to clinch second place in the final standings.

All three teams are in the playoffs, along with Drinkers Pub United, who played to a scoreless draw Saturday with NewPhillyUnited. The playoff winner earns the division’s second promotion slot, unless Real Optimus wins the playoffs, in which case the second place Cannons will return to Primera. NPU and Gremio FBPA finished in 9th and 10th place, respectively, and are set for relegation to Tercera next season.

Segunda was the only division to get all its games in on Saturday, as cold rains wiped out the day’s second half of games, including all the Abierto division matches. Games that weren’t played have been pushed back to this coming Saturday at the Philadelphia Soccer Club. (No truth to the rumor that they’ll still be playing at Christmas … right?)

In Primera’s only completed match, West Philly FC and Deportivo Arsenal played to a scoreless draw. With West Philly and Deportivo Arsenal already assured of playof spots, it means KS Cracovia, the Allstars and Penn United will all play this Saturday with hopes of being among the final two playoff teams. In the Tercera division, one playoff spot remains on the line. If 5th place Lot Lizards defeat last place nOgerland at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, they’ll inch past Sons of Ben Independence in the standings to claim the final playoff spot. Sporting Philly clinched the third spot behind regular season champs Organized Chaos FC and second place United Nations FC when they drew FC Spartans 1-1. SoBI had the chance to clinch the 4th spot spot but drew 2-2 with a Tri-County United team that hasn’t lost in six matches. Now they need some help from nOgerland.

Playoffs are now set for Dec. 19, weather allowing.
