In our Seitz

NCAA champion. MLS Champion. Philadelphia Union keeper.

22 year-old Chris Seitz, formerly a member of the upstart MLS champions Real Salt Lake, is now on the roster of your hometown team. Seitz was mainly used as a back up behind Nick Rimando, he of penalty kick fame – and MVP of the MLS Cup.

Rimando clearly wasn’t going anywhere, so Nick Sakiewicz and his crew swooped in to secure Seitz in exchange for allocation money.

Seitz played collegiately at the University of Maryland, and led them to the 2005 National Championship as a freshman. That was the first national championship for the Terps since 1968; they subsequently won the 2008 title. Seitz was a member of the All-Tournament team and was also voted the Most Outstanding Defensive player of the tournament.

Seitz has also represented the USA in the Under-20 World Cup, the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament, and the 2008 Olympics. Clearly these venues gave Peter Nowak an up close and personal view of Seitz.

Sietz joins Brad Knighton, previously of the New England Revolution, in net for the Union. Seitz has won everywhere he’s played. Let’s hope he continues the trend here.
