KYW Philly Soccer Show: Antoine Hoppenot

He’s the guy that comes off the bench when the Philadelphia Union needs a spark, and he is the guest this week on the KYW Philly Soccer Show.

Forward Antoine Hoppenot joins KYW’s Greg Orlandini and PSP writer Eli Pearlman-Storch, talking about his role with the team and the possibility of earning a start in the near future.

The Princeton product says he is comfortable being one of the first guys off the bench for the team.

The Union have a tough stretch coming up, with three matches over the next week. We talk about the possibility of the team rotating some of the players to deal with the rapid succession of games.

One player who could make his season debut in place of the injured Jeff Parke is defender Bakary Soumaré. He had earlier asked for a trade due to lack of playing time.

Greg and Eli then wrap up with the biggest news in the soccer world: Sir Alex Ferguson is stepping down as manager of Manchester United. He leaves with 13 league championships, five FA Cups, and two UEFA Champions League titles, making him one of the most successful British managers in history.

Reports say fellow Scot and current Everton manager David Moyes will take over one of the most prestigious jobs in the game.

Also discussed in the podcast is a special episode that will air next week where PSP’s own readers will have the chance to call into the show and talk Union soccer with Greg and Eli. Unbelievable. Just watched Nelson Rodriguez video on MLS.com try to explain why Eddie Johnson got away with kneeing Antoine on the ground. Obviously Eddie has a free pass in this league. Rodriguez and his committee should be ashamed and Eddie needs his ass kicked.
