KYW Philly Soccer Show: A player’s coming out story & a resurgent Jack ‘Mac’

In the latest Philly Soccer Show podcast, co hosts Greg Orlandini and PSP’s Eli Pearlman-Storch are joined by soccer journalist Leander Schaerlaeckens and PhiladelphiaUnion.com writer Kevin Kinkead.

Last November, Montreal Impact player David Testo finally told his secret to the world: that he is gay. Last week, Schaerlaeckens published an article at SB Nation that tells the story that lead up to Testo’s decision to come out.

In part one, Schaerlaeckens talks with the pod about Testo’s struggles with his sexuality, and how it ultimately affected his career. Also discussed are some of the steps being made, not only in soccer, but in other sports to help eliminate homophobia.

Greg and Eli also talk with Schaerlaeckens about the interview he did with Michael Orozco Fiscal published last week by Fox Soccer in which the former Union defender discusses his treatment by former Union coach Peter Nowak.

In part two, Greg and Eli are joined by Kevin Kinkead. The three talk about a number of topics concerning the team including the resurgent play of striker Jack McInerney as well as the fact the Union have won two out of three games and have a very winnable game against New England Revolution this Saturday.
