The Independence finished the WPS regular season with a 4-1 loss to FC Gold Pride, their fourth loss in a row. The Washington Freedom secured fourth place and a playoff berth against the Independence on Sunday, September 19th in West Chester with a 1-0 victory over Atlanta Beat.

Though they dropped their third straight match last night, the Independence’s strong start to the year is going to be enough to see them into the postseason thanks to Sky Blue FC’s 1-1 tie with first place FC Gold Pride.

The Independence was downed in their last regular season home game of the season, as a 2nd half penalty was enough for the Boston Breakers to steal all three points. The Independence only have two games left to secure a 2nd place finish in the league.
