Facing Nashville SC on the road without their top three goal-scorers, the Boys in Blue leaned on a disciplined defensive effort to secure a 0-0 draw against a side chasing MLS history. Malik Jakupovic made his first MLS start, and while Philadelphia struggled to find a breakthrough of its own, the backline held firm even after Nashville introduced its leading scorers in the second half. The result capped off a successful night for the Union, who can now turn their attention toward closing out the regular season and preparing for the postseason.
Player Ratings
Andre Blake — 8
Blake helped secure the clean sheet with a pair of crucial saves, including on a Sam Surridge header in the 88th minute. He also blocked Reed Baker-Whiting’s effort in the first half, giving Nashville very little to celebrate despite its pressure.
Kai Wagner — 7
Wagner was a consistent presence on the left, delivering several corners and a free kick while helping the Union create opportunities from set pieces. His service set up Neil Pierre’s chance in the second-half, but those chances were never turned into a goal.
Neil Pierre — 8
Pierre was a major part of Philadelphia’s defensive effort, helping limit Nashville to zero shots in the first half. He nearly broke the deadlock with a header from Wagner’s corner, and blocked a dangerous Hany Mukhtar attempt late in the match.
Nathan Harriel — 7
Harriel handled his responsibilities at right back well, contributing to a disciplined defensive performance against the Shield winners. He also won a free kick in the first half, although he had to be careful defensively as Nashville increased the pressure after the break.
Japhet Sery Larsen — 7
Sery Larsen helped the Union maintain their defensive shape during a scoreless first half and contributed to the backline’s strong overall performance.
Indiana Vassilev — 6
Vassilev showed attacking initiative early, getting off a shot in the 13th minute and drawing a yellow-card-worthy foul from Edvard Tagseth. However, he couldn’t find a breakthrough, and his influence in the attacking third faded as the match progressed.
Jovan Lukic — 6
Lukic helped keep the midfield organized and provided the headed pass that set up Vassilev’s early shooting opportunity. His first-half yellow card was a blemish on an otherwise steady performance in a physically demanding match.
Danley Jean Jacques — 6
Danley contributed to the Union’s defensive work in midfield and helped disrupt Nashville’s attempts to build momentum. However, his late yellow card for a foul on Mukhtar will rule him out against Cincinnati, making an otherwise useful performance more costly.
Quinn Sullivan — 7
Sullivan helped create one of Philadelphia’s best opportunities, supplying the cross that led to Ben Bender’s 71st-minute shot. He also contributed to the Union’s work rate and defensive effort as Nashville pushed for a late winner.
Ezekiel Alladoh — 5
Alladoh worked alongside Jakupovic in an unfamiliar attacking combination necessitated by Philadelphia’s absences, but clear-cut chances were hard to come by. He was substituted in the 69th minute without making a decisive impact in the final third.
Malik Jakupovic — 6
Making his first MLS start, Jakupovic gained valuable experience against the reigning Supporters’ Shield winners. He helped lead an experimental attacking setup but couldn’t find a goal before being substituted for Bender in the 59th minute.
Substitutes
(59′) Ben Bender — 7
Bender brought an attacking spark after entering in the 59th minute, forcing Brian Schwake into a save with a promising shot in the 71st. His willingness to get forward gave the Union one of their better opportunities to steal all three points.
(69′) Frankie Westfield —7
His late block on Mukhtar’s 90th-minute effort was particularly important as Nashville searched desperately for a winner.
(69′) Agustin Anello — 6
Anello added fresh legs in the final third and came close to making an impact with a header in the 89th minute, although the attempt missed the target. He also helped the Union manage the closing stages, even if his attacking contribution was limited.
(86′) Alejandro Bedoya — N/A
Geiger Counter
REF — Pierre-Luc Lauziere — 7
The referee managed a physical contest that featured yellow cards for Lukic, Jean Jacques, and Nashville’s Tagseth, with no major officiating controversy.
Richter Scale:
Ryan Richter – 8
Richter deserves credit for preparing a depleted lineup to face the Supporters’ Shield winners on the road, particularly with missing the top three goal scorers. His side stayed organized and earned a clean sheet against Nashville’s late attacking reinforcements, even if they struggled to generate consistent scoring chances.
Player of the Match: Neil Pierre
The young center back helped limit Nashville to zero shots in the first half before stepping up again as the hosts increased the pressure after halftime. Pierre nearly broke the deadlock with a header off Kai Wagner’s corner, then produced a crucial block on Hany Mukhtar’s second-half attempt. Against a Nashville side loaded with attacking talent, Pierre helped anchor the clean sheet and secure a valuable road point.
What’s Next…
The Union will look to build on their playoff-clinching performance when they travel to Ohio to face FC Cincinnati on Saturday, October 31. Kickoff from TQL Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET, with coverage on Apple TV.

These ratings are all too high for the attackers in a match in which we had few good chances and an xG of 1. The two strikers and Quinn should all be a couple points lower. Quinn seems to have physically recovered well enough from his injury but is still not the player he was last season. I would also give Lukic an extra point, even with the silly yellow card. He covered space really well all game.
