All Three Points: A glimmer of hope? (S14, E3)

A stretch of dour results put the Union at the bottom of the MLS table and out of the continental cup. Only a second half comeback in their final match of the interval gave fans any glimmer of hope. How much hope though?

Jeremy and Chris and the All Three Points Podcast are here to discuss.

  2. Great breakdown of the problems so far this season, especially calling out the lack of cohesion in the midfield and missing Glesnes as the trigger for the offense from the back.

It’s clear that in addition to believing the offseason signings would just plug right into the roles of the departed players, which has not happened, Union expected returning players to step up from complimentary to primary roles. Damiani, Iloski and Makhanya aren’t consistent enough at a high level to be ‘the Guys’, and the result is not surprising.

This is maybe a little bit harsh on Iloski, who isn’t really a creator and should be finishing chances in a more coherent offensive structure, but the point is valid. Damiani so far not having a breakout second year, Makhanya regressing with added responsibility, and a lack of trusted offensive playmakers tell a lot of the story.
