On a sunny afternoon in Philadelphia, the Union played their last game of the regular season against Toronto FC. It was not only the last game of the season, but it was also the end to 13 seasons of local broadcasting. Longtime announcer JP Dellacamera was honored with a Union jersey and opening the game by banging the big drum.
The Union dominated at home once again, scoring two goals in each half of the game. With his three goals in the game, Daniel Gazdag became the sixth player in MLS history with at least 20 goals and 10 assists in a single season. The Union were the only team in the MLS this year to go undefeated at home with a record of 12-5-0. Along with that record, the Union set a club record of only allowing other teams to score 26 goals on the season and tied the MLS record of 49 goals scored at home.
With the Union clinching first place in the Eastern Conference, they received a bye and will take the field again on October 20 at 8 p.m. against either New York Red Bulls or FC Cincinnati.
With JP’s last regular season game, the Union bid farewell after 13 seasons covering the team. The departure is due to a new deal for broadcasting in the 2023 season.
