    Earnie’s done.
    .
Shall we prepare to welcome Albright as our new GM? Or is there a chance they go outside again?

    • el Pachyderm says:

      .
no chance. as in zero. absolute zero. kelvin.
      .
I arranged the tea leave…. Ouiji. Tarot.

I was just coming to post that link…
      .
I’m hoping the Union go outside again. Best option of all would be if they already have their guy lined up, knowing Stewart would be leaving.
      .
That said, I fully expect it’ll be Albright. The only question in my mind, really, is whether Albright has to wear the “interim” label for a while or not…

      • If it’s Albright I’m done with the Union. Full stop.

      • el Pachyderm says:

        Why Rob?
        .
Do you not think he’s capable? He understudied for 3 years with the Sporting Director and is likely to carry Earnie’s vision forward.
        .
To go out and find another SD ‘who shares but doesn’t share’ the previous sporting director’s vision couple be catastrophic. “You don’t just fire a coach to fire a coach. You wind up getting relegated.”
        .
Chris Albright will fall in. March to the company beat. Build from within on the budget available. Now about finding talent abroad… thats what all the scouts are for.
        .
Not saying this is right or wrong. Not saying Chris Albright is right or wrong choice. To be fair, I think he will serve amenably.
        .
Its the logical conclusion though. 100%.

      • I’ve come a bit full circle into thinking that things are going to be what they’re going to be with this club until ownership changes significantly. I’m off the let’s fire Curtin bandwagon and don’t care who replaces Stewart. That sounds defeatist, but it’s not. It’s acceptance. I’m quite fine with that.

Ans speaking of ownership, anyone catch the story that Crystal Palace and it’s Philly are owners are two months late in filing their financials? The companies register has threatened the club with dissolution (an action I won’t pretend to understand fully). They lost $7 million last year and there’s suspicion that paying off Pardew cost them mightily. It’ll be something to watch.

      • el Pachyderm says:

acceptance. the final stage of grief.

      • Probably worth admitting that this is my feeling today…. I reserve the right to be furious about this team tomorrow.

  2. Good luck, Earnie. Now, let’s get the formation reworked and find some goals somewhere. This lone striker hasn’t worked.

    • John Osborn says:

Agreed. Would love to see a 4-4-2 with Burke & Sapong @ top.

      • Who are you taking off so Sapong can stand in the center of the field and do nothing, I mean occupy the CBs?

    • Tim Jones says:

Says the retired history teacher with a , the 4-2-3-1 was here before Earnie Stewart and will probably be after.
      .
It’s what the whole organization teaches from U-12 to first team.
      .
“Should” is an entirely different question that I do not presume to address.

  3. I’m feeling quite blase about Stewart leaving. I hope he does well for the US. I’m just not sure how much his leaving visually impacts the Union. This will most likely continue on as el p says above. I have a feeling his true impact to this club won’t be felt or understood till the book is written many years down the line. His track record with player signings is hit or miss, but I feel what he really had his hands on was behind the scenes and no so obvious to us fans. But I believe the organization felt it and is much better off than before he got here.
    .
    So long Ernie, good luck.

    • el Pachyderm says:

This is a really thoughtful response. I tend to agree. I am of two minds regarding his departure.

      Oh my.
