News roundup: USMNT come back to win, Union players named to Homegrown Game, and more

Union Academy products Auston Trusty and Derrick Jones were selected for the MLS Homegrown Game roster.

Look for top prospect Anthony Fontana to to make his Union debut against Swansea City this Saturday. It’s not set in stone, but Jim Curtin certainly hinted at it.

Andre Blake was nominated for Best MLS Player at last night’s ESPYS. Christian Pulisic was also nominated for Best Breakthrough Player.

Atlanta United have officially passed Seattle to lead MLS in attendance.

With a league-high 42 goals against, Minnesota United have signed New Zealand defender Michael Boxall. Having gone in the 2011 MLS Supplemental draft, this will be Boxall’s second stint in MLS.

Around the globe

After blowing a 2-0 lead, the USMNT came back to win their Gold Cup match against Martinique. Alejandro Bedoya subbed on in the 62nd minute and contributed to the second goal. Chris Pontius came on for Paul Arriola in the 72nd minute. The USMNT now sit on top of Group B in the Gold Cup.

In other Gold Cup news, Panama defeated Nicaragua, Andre Blake and Jamaica are set to take on Mexico tonight, and El Salvador will face Curaçao.

Ex-FIFA and CONCACAF official Chuck Blazer has died at age 72. Blazer had been in the news recently for whistle-blowing on corruption in FIFA.

PSG have signed Dani Alves on a free transfer.
