After a big home win against Orlando, Philadelphia Union face a long flight and a tough opponent as they head to Seattle to face the Sounders on Saturday.
In the latest episode of the KYW Philly Soccer Show, KYW’s Greg Orlandini and Kevin Kinkead of CBS3, Philly Voice, and Philly Soccer Page talk with Matt Pentz, the Sounders beat writer for the Seattle Times.
The Sounders are in some uncharted territory as they currently sit at the bottom of the Western Conference. Matt talks about the departure of the star forward Obafemi Martins and how it has impacted the team. He also discusses the addition of high profile rookie Jordan Morris. The Stanford grad had flirted with a move to a European team before signing with Seattle, and has struggled a bit in the early going this season.
After that, Greg and Kevin review the Union’s big 2-1 home win against Orlando City. It was a back and forth affair with Tranquillo Barnetta’s stunning free kick providing the late winner in the dying moments of the match. Friday’s win sees the Union in a tie for first place in the East with three wins and nine points in the standing.
CJ Sapong also scored in the match giving him a team-leading 3 goals on the year.
