The KYW Philly Soccer Show is back for the new year and we cover a lot of ground this week.

First, KYW’s Greg Orlandini and PSP’s Eli Pearlman-Storch are joined by Sean Doyle, director of social media for Reading United, to help us preview this Thursday’s MLS SuperDraft in Baltimore. Philadelphia Union have needs all across the board, and Sean says this draft is deep in defenders. The Union hold the 3rd and 6th picks in the first round and could really bolster their depleted roster.

Then PSP’s Mike Servedio joins the talk, as the guys discuss the Union’s latest acquisition, midfielder Walter Restrepo, from the New York Cosmos in the NASL. Michael Lahoud was loaned to the Cosmos as part of the deal. The guys talk about where Restrepo will play on the pitch and what impact he could have on the team.

Finally, local labor attorney, soccer historian, and PSP writer Steve Holroyd joins the show to talk about what looks to be the end of the Peter Nowak saga. Nowak, the Union’s first coach, sued the team after he was fired. Many shocking details about Nowak’s coaching tenure came in recently released court documents and the guys break those down.

God, Eli can beat a dead horse.

  2. Did everyone really forget to include Fernandes in the Restrepo/winger/attacker discussion?
    .
I’m excited to see if he can translate a solid season on loan to the MLS.

    • I thought Fernades was pretty good already for the Union 2 years ago, although if I remember correctly he faded badly down the stretch. Agreed that with a season of full-time PT he’s one to watch. Not sure where he slots in for this team though.

  3. Lucky Striker says:

CAM for Leo or he’s useless. Lacks the pace to contest out wide but is strong, can pick a pass and shoot while playing centrally. Quillo’s caddy.

    • At the moment, he and Pontius will split time on the left. We already have a logjam in the middle, and Leo can play on the wing, with the skills to drift inside.

  4. Prag… he can’t play on the Wing on the MLS level, he is too slow.
