US Soccer announced on Monday that Philadelphia Union Homegrown Player Zach Pfeffer has been called into the US U-23 MNT squad by head coach Andi Herzog for Tuesday’s match against Denmark.

Pfeffer fills the spot made vacant by forward Jordan Morris, who was called into the senior men’s side for Tuesday’s friendly against Switzerland after Aron Johannsson had to leave the team with an infected toe.

The US U-23s have been in Europe for their first training camp of the year in preparation for CONCACAF’s Olympic qualification tournament this fall. On Friday, the US defeated the Bosnia U-21 team, 5-2. After Tuesday’s friendly against Denmark, the team will play the Mexico U-23 team in Carson, Calif. on April 22.

A longtime US youth international with experience with the U-17, U-18, and U-20 national teams, this is his first national team callup of 2015. With the US U-20s in 2014, Pfeffer scored two goals, and recorded two assists, in five games.

Pfeffer has 3 appearances with 1 start for the Union in 2015. Currently serving a two-game suspension after receiving a straight red card in the 2-0 home loss to FC Dallas on March 21, he was loaned to Harrisburg City Islanders for their season opener on March 27 in Pittsburgh, during which he scored Harrisburg’s first goal in a game that finished as a 5-2 loss.

Good for Zach. Hope he does well. Just don’t elbow anyone 🙂

  2. At least he’ll have a chance to play some competitive soccer while on timeout for that silly elbow.
