The Union’s big week didn’t go as hoped, but while moral victories ring hollow, the Union still has a lot to play for. With the Open Cup final showing both the team’s promise and its weaknesses, the team must regroup for the final push. On today’s pod:
The games
- Union 2–2 NYRB: The Union go behind by two in a sloppy first half, only to battle back for the draw.
- Union 1–3 Seattle (AET): The Union give the Sounders all they can handle, and have the opportunity to win in regular time, only for Seattle’s fresher legs and touch of class to take the trophy in extra time.
- Union 0–0 Houston: While dominating the Dynamo from wire to wire, a tired and emotionally drained Union side can’t find their finishing boots and let two crucial points slip.
The points
- The rumored Jim Curtin hire: The back-room rumblings say Curtin’s interim tag is about to be removed. The team’s performances seems to warrant it, but is this the right time?
- Amobi Okugo’s benching: Okugo didn’t see the field in the Union’s biggest game ever. It seems like the first real misstep of Curtin’s tenure. What’s the deal?
- The new MLS logo: Love it or hate it, at least it’s better than what came before. Right?

‘Houston game not a hangover game’. ‘Maybe the Houston game was preamble to a team not playing as well as before changing lineup- per your second point above. This is my dreaded dead set belief -the tempo is changed but the music wasn’t written for it- andante now adagio.
we love any terminology that only a musician or Italian (see: Andrea Pirlo) would understand. well done.
Sweet blog! I found it while searching on Yahoo News. Do
you have any suggestions on how to get listed in Yahoo News?
I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there!
Appreciate it

You guys are funny. Every time I want to bash you for forgetting a fact or stat or something I end up chuckling. Thank you for keeping the analysis light-hearted…as we watch our U-boys crash and burn at the end of the season…for the second time in a row.
