No rest for the weary as the struggling Philadelphia Union have to go across the country on Saturday to face one of the hottest teams in the league, the Seattle Sounders.

And to get you ready, the KYW Philly Soccer Show talks with Sounders’ coach Sigi Schmid.

KYW’s Greg Orlandini and PSP’s Eli Pearlman-Storch talk with Schmid about his team’s four-game unbeaten streak, including a thorough 4-1 beating of the Colorado Rapids last week.

Schmid also talks about how well his top player (and national team star) Clint Dempsey is playing, after an earlier slump.

We then look at the Union with PSP writer Adam Cann. The Union have only one win on the year and are now winless in seven straight games.

Last week saw them lose a dour 1-0 match in Montreal. We also discuss an article by David Zeitlin in which Union coach John Hackworth calls out midfielder Cristian Maidana for, among other things, his lack of fitness.

  1. Hackworth can not get the best out of his skilled players. This is nothing new. Hackworth is not a professional manager by any stretch. It’s painfully obvious when you have a Sigi Scmid and then you have a Hackworth. Hackworth is going to eventually alienate Edu, Maidana and Noguiera. Willams acts like he’s already sick of Hackworth. He needs to go! SMFH!
