KYW Philly Soccer Show: Andrew Wenger

Lots of news in the world of soccer this week, and the KYW Philly Soccer Show is here to keep you on top of it.

In the latest edition of the pod, KYW’s Greg Orlandini and PSP’s Eli Pearlman-Storch are joined by new Philadelphia Union forward Andrew Wenger.

The Lancaster County native comes to the Union from the Montreal Impact, in exchange for fellow forward Jack McInerney.

Wenger, whose last game as a member of the Impact was at PPL Park (where he saw a straight red card for a hard tackle on Vincent Nogueira), says he looks forward to slotting into the forward spot vacated by McInerney.

Greg and Eli then discuss some goings-on at US Soccer. The men’s team walked away with a 2-2 draw against Mexico last week, in Arizona, where Union midfielder Maurice Edu made an appearance for the Red, White, and Blue.

And the women’s team made news as well, with the firing of their head coach, Tom Sermanni. The Scot had only been at the helm for about a year before being canned.

  1. Great Cast! This was a very honest stripped down discussion about the Union and John Hackworth. In my opinion unless John Hackworth suddenly learns to coach at the MLS level we are going to continue to deal with a lot of the same issues. Regarding Le Toux, as much as I love the guy, Eli and Greg are dead on. Which begs questions again about Hackworth’s ability as a coach and strategist. It’s like when he first took over as coach and he flew under the radar until he could no longer cover up the glaring weaknesses on the team. Now he has addressed those personnel issues but it’s tactics or Hacktics that can not longer be covered up. He is not a pro coach. Again very good cast gentlemen!
