Question — How and when did the (dapper) US soccer team travel to Italy in 1934?
This is for book research related to the events in Italy in that year.

Augustine, they traveled aboard the SS Roma of the Italia Line (Italia di Navigazione S.p.A., home port Genoa), arriving in Rome on May 14, 1934.

Hi. Im trying to connect a 1934 World Championship medal to my grandfather. His name was Ed Hughes. Born in Glasgow Scotland. I always thought he played for England or Scotland but my research shows neither of those countries had teams in the Champs. The medal says World Championships Italy 1934. Any leads would be amazing!
