Philadelphia Union have waived four players in advance of today’s MLS Waiver Draft.

Midfielder Kleberson, goalkeeper Oka Nikolov, midfielder/defender Greg Jordan and midfielder Don Anding all went into the waiver draft today.

Kleberson and Jordan were no surprises. Both were expected to depart the team, and Union manager John Hackworth previously told The Philly Soccer Page that Nikolov could depart as well.

Anding, however, was expected to be invited to training camp. He was signed on a one-year contract after the Union made him the team’s top pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, with an eye toward converting him to left back.

The four players are now available via the waiver draft, which takes place at 3:30 p.m. today. If none are claimed, they will be free to sign with other MLS clubs.

This post may be updated as more information becomes available after the waiver draft.

Someone will have to exposing the Anding thing to me. I don’t get why we waived him

      Sorry… meant “explain”

    • Am inquiring about that. Hackworth told me they would give Anding and a few other players the opportunity to look around for other opportunities but also invite them to win a job in training camp. It may be that Anding took them up on that offer, and this is how he looks for those opportunities because waivers is the mechanism to grant him the freedom to do so.

  2. Dan- is this like baseball’s waiver, where the club losing the player to a waiver claim receives compensation in the form of draft choice(s)? That could explain the decision, but waiver after one year is tough for a top round choice.

  3. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I wonder if the Anding move means that either a) Hack intends to keep Gaddis at left back, or b) they have another left back their working on signing.

  4. hackworth has zero excuses no for not getting a proper left back last draft. stupid dumb stupid. also pretty dumb.
