The Philadelphia Union get back to work in league play this Saturday when they go on the road to face New York Red Bulls and the KYW Philly Soccer Show is here to help you get ready.
Joining KYW’s Greg Orlandini and PSP’s Eli Pearlman-Storch is New York Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke. The former MLS defender is in his first year guiding a Red Bulls team that has struggled out of the gate in 2013. Petke talks about the team’s early-season injury issues, developing younger players, and what it means to be one of the crop of younger, former MLS players who have taken the coaching reins around the league.
Greg and Eli then discuss the departure of Freddy Adu from the Union. Also, the arrival of Brazilian midfielder Kleberson to the team and where he will fit on the squad.
The discussion then turns to the USMNT’s recent World Cup qualifiers. The US defeated Costa Rica in a blizzard in Colorado and then were on the road for a draw against arch-rival Mexico, all with a young and inexperienced defense and a goalkeeper in Brad Guzan playing in his first qualifiers.

Good pod. Very funny to hear Petke’s comments about Josue Martinez knowing how the other shoe dropped yesterday.
