KYW Philly Soccer Show: Jack McInerney

Two game-winning goals in two matches, and he’s now the Philadelphia Union’s leading goal scorer for the season.

Jack McInerney is the guest on this week’s KYW Philly Soccer Show.

KYW’s Greg Orlandini and PSP’s Eli Pearlman-Storch talk with the young forward about his strong start in the 2013 campaign. McInerney also discusses his partnership with fellow forward and Union all-time leading scorer Sébastien Le Toux.

Eli and Greg then move on to some of the off-field drama the team is going through as the Union try to offload two high-priced players: defender Bakary Soumare and, of course, Freddy Adu.

Adu is in Brazil ahead of a possible transfer to Bahia, with the Union getting a World Cup winner in return: Brazilian midfielder Kléberson.

Soumare, in a story first reported by the Philly Soccer Page, requested a trade, saying he did not feel he is getting a fair chance at playing time.

Greg and Eli then move on to the US National Team, who are looking at two major World Cup qualifiers in five days: first against Costa Rica in Colorado on Friday, and then against arch-rival Mexico at the Estadio Azteca.

Head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has a number of key injuries and a very inexperienced defense to deal with, making the road to the 2014 World Cup that much harder.
