The USASA will send nine teams to the Open Cup tournament, founded in 1914 as the National Challenge Cup and the oldest national soccer tournament in the US. In 2011, Phoenix SC became the third team from Eastern Pennsylvania in the Pro Era to represent Region I in the Open Cup tournament, following Vereinigung Erzgebirge (1999) and United German Hungarians (2002). In the first round of the tournament, they fell 2–1 to Rochester Rhinos.
In 2012, Jersey Shore Boca, former club of Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Chris Konopka, became the first USASA team from New Jersey in the Pro Era to reach the first round of the US Open Cup where they were defeated 6–0 by PDL side Michigan Bucks.
United German Hungarians finished runners up in the Open Cup in 1977 and 1993.
