Junior Lone Star advance to quarterfinals Eastern PA Open Cup qualifiers

Junior Lone Star FC have qualified for the Eastern Pennsylvania State Open Cup quarterfinals after thrashing Mayfair Celtics 6-0 with braces from Moses Jackson and Joe Joe Jappah as well as a goal apiece from Ebere Goodluck and Mitchell Torh.

The Stars, buoyed by their 3-1 win over fierce local rivals Salone FC in the Amateur Cup last week, went into this match with purpose. As early as the first minute, the Stars almost took the lead when Ebere Goodluck was free on goal only to misfire.

The Stars, however, didn’t take too long to get on the score sheet. Midfield maestro Joe Joe Jappah and forward Ebere Goodluck exchanged passes in the midfield with the latter sending a lofted pass for Moses Jackson who ran unchallenged towards goal to score the Stars’ opener in the fifth minute.

The Stars, not resting on that one-goal lead, exerted more pressure in searching for the second goal which was very hard to come by until the 30th minute when Lawrence Brown played a long pass for Jackson who rolled the ball across goal for a simple tap-in for Goodluck to put the Stars 2-0 up going to the interval.

After the interval, the Stars started where they left off as the Stars’ three forwards—Lawrence Brown, Ebere Goodluck, and Moses Jackson—were proving to be a handful for the Celtics.

Just like the second goal, those three players combined again in the 47th minute for the Stars’ third goal. Brown received the ball on the right side of midfield where he played the ball on the sideline for Goodluck to send a cross across goal where Jackson was waiting for a simple tap-in to score his second goal of the game and the third goal for the Stars.

Five minutes later, the trio were again involved in the build up for the Stars fourth goal. Jappah started the play in the center with a pass to Jackson to send another pass to Goodluck who released Brown on the right to send another beautiful cross across goal for Jappah to bundle in his first goal in the match, thereby putting the Stars 4-0 up at Mayfair Celtics.

After the fourth goal, coach Bobby Ali decided to solidify the scoreline by bringing in defenders Aba Zoegar and Prince Zuah for Amadu Fofana and Aboubakar Dosso, respectively.

Not sitting back to defend their four-goal lead, the Stars continued to press for the fifth goal and that duly came in the 65th minute. A cross from Brown was headed by Fane Ayouba into the path of Jappah who somehow dribbled his way past two defenders to slot the ball in the back of the net to score his second goal of the game.

Ali then brought in Mitchell Torh and Constance Zoegar to replace Moses Jackson and Lawrence Brown, respectively.

Torh made an immediate impact after coming on in the game as he scored the sixth goal for the Stars in the 85th minute after lashing on a pass from Goodluck.

Mohammed Mayah and Anthony Dunor were both impressive in defense and goalkeeper Prince Monyan added another clean sheet for this season. Captain Justin Wright received a yellow card in the first half.

Ebere Goodluck was named Player of the Match after scoring a goal and registering three assists in the match.

Junior Lone Star FC will travel to Vereinigung Erzgebirge Majors on Sunday, Nov. 18th for the Eastern Pennsylvania State Amateur Cup Quarter-finals before traveling to United German Hungarians Majors on Sunday, Dec. 2nd for the Eastern Pennsylvania State Open Cup Quarter-finals.
