Philly Soccer Six conference playoffs

Big East
Villanova faced Seton Hall on Thursday afternoon in the first round of the Big East Championship. The Wildcats secured the home win 3-1 with goals from Danny Gonzalez, Kyle Soroka and Hayden Harr. Nova advanced to the quarterfinals to face NSCAA No. 6 Connecticut on Sunday afternoon. Despite their efforts, Connecticut shut down the Wildcats 1-0 ending their Big East Championship run.

Atlantic 10
Temple beat Saint Joseph’s 2-0 on Saturday in both teams’ final match of the regular season. The Owl’s secured the win with goals from Andrew Dodds and Chas Wilson. The loss marks the end of the season for Saint Joseph’s, but the beginning of the post season for Temple. The Owl’s will face VCU in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals on Thursday evening at 5PM. This championship run marks Temple’s last in the Atlantic 10 as they will move to the Big East in 2013.

La Salle shut out Saint Bonaventure 1-0 on Friday afternoon with a sole goal from Rob Friskey. The Explorers went on to earn another shutout on Sunday against Duquesne. Jason Plumhoff, Tom Kalpokas and Joe Farrell each had goals securing the 3-0 win. Farrell was named Philly Soccer Six Rookie of the Week. La Salle goalkeeper John McCarthy, who was named both the Philly Soccer Six Player and Defender of the Week, now holds the school record for shutouts at 23. The Explorers will face Saint Louis in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals on Thursday morning at 11AM. This marks La Salle’s third consecutive trip to the post season.

Colonial Athletic Association
Drexel became the 2012 CAA regular season champions after shutting down James Madison 2-0 on Friday night. The Dragons secured the win with goals from Tal Bublil and Mark Donohue. No. 1 seed Drexel will face the quarterfinal winner (Hofstra vs. George Mason – TBD) on Friday night in the CAA Championship semifinals. As the number one team, the Dragons will serve as host to the CAA semifinal and final matches.

Ivy League
Penn lost 3-0 to Princeton on Saturday evening. They are presently in last place in the Ivy League and will play their final game against Harvard on Saturday.

NCAA
The NCAA will announce selections for the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship on Monday November 12th at 5:30PM.
