Carlos Valdes is an All-Star

Commissioner Don Garber gets to choose two members of the MLS All-Star bench. One of his choices in 2012 is Philadelphia Union defender Carlos Valdes.

Having taken over as captain of the Union after Danny Califf’s departure, this is Valdes’ first All-Star appearance in his second MLS season.

Garber also selected 14-year MLS veteran Ramiro Corrales of the San Jose Earthquakes.

Ben Olsen, named the MLS All-Star coach after Peter Nowak was relieved of his duties by the Philadelphia Union, chose Chris Pontius (M – DC United), Dan Kennedy (GK – Chivas USA), Osvaldo Alonso (M – Seattle), Eddie Johnson (F – Seattle), and Kyle Beckerman (M – Real Salt Lake).

Thus, Valdes will be the Union’s lone representative when the MLS All-Stars take the field against Chelsea at PPL Park.
