KYW Philly Soccer Show: Frank Yallop

There’s no rest for the Philadelphia Union as the top team in the west, the San Jose Earthquakes, come to town this Saturday. And the KYW Philly Soccer Show previews it.

In Part 1, KYW’s Greg Orlandini and PSP’s Eli Pearlman-Storch sit down with Earthquakes coach Frank Yallop.

San Jose is kind of the opposite of the Union right now, getting it done with a high-flying offense, led by forward Chris Wondolowski who, with eight goals, is tied for the league lead in goals.

The Union will be shorthanded on the field and on the sideline with Keon Daniel and Gabriel Farfan both receiving red cards, and Peter Nowak ejected after stepping on the field during the melée late in the game.

In Part 2, Greg and Eli look back at the Chivas game, where the Union picked up a win and are now undefeated in three games (2-0-1), registering three straight shutouts for the first time in team history.

That streak will be tested against the Quakes and their potent offense. The Union so far this year are struggling for offense, with only four goals total all year, and are dead last in the league with only 53 shots.

  1. I think the Quakes will also be without a few keys players.

I think a 0-0, 1-1 or 1-0 winner are three best results we can hope for. I do not see us scoring 2 goals in this game. The other coaches will most likely pack it in for 90 and go for the draw or 1-0.

  2. Great that you guys get these coaches on the phone prior to games!!

  3. Eli! Thanks for apologizing! Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea!! Tir Na Nog: official home of the Philly Blues – be there on May 5 and 19!
