Freddy Adu and Danny Mwanga were two of six Philadelphia Union players voted by fans as among the top 24 MLS players under the age of 24.
Adu came in third in the fan vote behind Brek Shea at no. 1 and Juan Agudelo at no. 2.
Mwanga, voted no. 5 in last year’s vote, came in at n0. 7.
Roger Torres, ranked by the fans at no. 23 in 2010, jumped to no. 11 this time around. Jack McInerney, voted no. 22 in 2010, rose in the poll to no. 20.
The Farfan brothers made the top 24 with Michael coming in at no. 21 and Gabriel at no. 23.
Sheanon Williams made the top 40, coming in at no. 37.
Philadelphia Union players represented a quarter of the results in the top 24 poll held on the MLS Facebook page, the most from any team. Three players from DC United made the top 24 list.
At the end of the day, we should realize and appreciate the team this staff put together. I saw some comments on this article complaining about how this list is not fair because “half the Unions team is under 24.” These guys did a great job creating a young, enjoyable team that can compete now and far into the future.
