HOLY CRAP!!!!! LANDON DONOVAN 4 PRESIDENT (and other off the cuff remarks)

That was as good as it gets. Despite showing off the USA’s lack of a final cutting edge in the box, it made for even better drama. A TRULY DESERVED VICTORY!!!

UNITED STATES 1 – ALGERIA 0

The US wins the group and now looks at a potential matchup with Serbia (maybe Ghana).

Enormous ups to Jonathan Bornstein: I don’t like him, you don’t like him, but he did his job well today. Maurice Edu played wonderfully off of Michael Bradley who just continues to shine. How much longer can people fail to accept how good he is? Dempsey ran himself ragged (as did Herculez Gomez), tracking back deep to help out and win plenty of ball. And Bocanegra was a mountain, just immense in his positional play and composure in the backline. Then there was Landon Donovan, working hard to stay in the play and finding the rebound that made it all worth it.

I’m opening up the floor to reactions. I’m sure more eloquently crafted pieces will follow this, but this one was just too good to be true. My buddy fell off his bar stool, almost getting trampled in the celebration and I have a suspicion that I was the one who pushed him.

Where were you when it happened? What’d you do when it all went down?

  1. HOLY CRAP!!!!! I was in my office abusing the cable access and ruining it for my coworker who was attempting the record-and-watch-later technique. Totally ruining it. Being that girl with the Dempsey jersey who was squealing.

Did I mention that I love Jay DeMerit and Green Bay, WI?

An email subject line after the game summed up my feelings: “And Justice for All!”

  2. Two guys in my office were watching it on Univision on delay. I had the bootleg site. I went nuts. They were like, “What? What?”

    Greatness. Definitely justice for all.

I was behind the bar at the 700, trying to figure out – after so many chances that saw the bar erupt in celebration only to then sink back in disbelief – how I would feel if the US couldn’t score before time ran out. And when they did score it was the loudest, most sustained sonic manifestation of joy (and relief) that I have ever experienced. I am still stunned. And I have never felt more proud of our team.

Unbelievable. I should have taken the whole day off from work instead of just the morning, because I am completely worthless sitting here. I was at 700 and it was packed wall to wall. I broke my glasses. I hugged sweaty strangers. I high fived anyone that would high five me. Absolutely amazing…
