Union trade for another 1st round pick

Philadelphia Union acquired the No. 6 pick in today’s draft by sending allocation money to Dallas.

The deal gives the Union three of the draft’s top seven picks and is the club’s second trade in the last 24 hours.

“The opportunity to move up and select another player who we believe might help us build our foundation was a chance well worth taking,” Union Manager Peter Nowak said.

The second trade may have been made possible by the acquisition of allocation money from D.C. United in the first deal, which brought the Union the seventh pick and midfielder Fred in exchange for the first spot in the allocation order. D.C. United signed U.S. international goalkeeper Troy Perkins, thanks to that allocation spot.
