Casa Soccer League — playoffs this Saturday

The Casa Soccer League’s playoffs are set, and this Saturday’s matches at Philadelphia Soccer Club will finally settle Casa’s longest, wettest season ever.

In the Primera Division, the Allstars snuck into the playoffs with a 1-0 win over Penn United on Saturday, thanks to a first half goal by George Owura Brew. The two teams were essentially in a win-or-go-home scenario, and the Allstars sent Penn home after what had been a brilliant season for Penn, marked by their surprise rise to Primera and then this year’s solid showing in the top division.

The Allstars needed some help though, because KS Cracovia could have surpassed them with a win Saturday over defending champion Deportivo Arsenal. Unfortunately, Arsenal didn’t cooperate, as Declan Gomley netted twice to lead them to a 3-1 win over Cracovia.

The 3rd place Allstars will now play second seed West Philly FC in this Saturday’s playoff round, while top seed Arsenal play 4th seed Philly Soccer Firm. Both games are at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, with the winners meeting at 2:35 p.m. the same day. (View standings.)

Meanwhile, the Abierto division was the only other one with playoff spots left in play on Saturday. Sons of Ben Union missed out on the final four by a mere 1 point in the standings. They drew by far the toughest last day match of the season, against first place Park Towne United, and their match ended in a 1-1 draw. That means Park Towne and 4th seed K-R-E-V will face off in one playoff match, while Marlton FC and Bayern Makefield play in the other. Both games are at 8:50 a.m. on Dec. 19, with the winners to play at 12:40 p.m. the same day in the final. (View standings.)

The Segunda division’s playoff matches pit top seed Real Optimus against 4th place Drinkers Pub United and 2nd place Cannons FC against 3rd place Philly United. That second match could be the most interesting of the day, as the Cannons’ win last week over Philly United knocked Philly out of first place and cost them the automatic promotion that comes with it. Instead, Real Optimus is guaranteed promotion, thanks to their regular season title, and the other three teams must fight it out in the playoffs for the second promotion spot. First round starts at 8:50 a.m. on Dec. 19, with the finals at 12:40 p.m. (View final standings.)

Finally, the Tercera division playoffs are set as well. First place Organized Chaos FC will play 4th place Sporting Philly, while 2nd place United Nations FC play 3rd place Lot Lizards. First round starts at 10:45 a.m. on Dec. 19, with the finals at 2:35 p.m. the same day. (View final standings.)
