MLS expansion draft protection lists due today

Philadelphia Union will find out today who’s available in Wednesday’s expansion draft.

Teams have till 3 p.m. today to provide their protected player lists to league officials. A brief, half-day trade window closes at noon today. Once we have the protected lists – they’ll hopefully be made public today – we’ll post them here and then mock up some projected selections.

The Union will then submit their picks to Major League Soccer headquarters by 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Once the league approves the picks, the Union will make public their draftees. We could also hear of a signing or trade leading up to that, possibly with allocation rights being exchanged or the rumored pickup of Colombian teenager Roger Torres, who plays for America de Cali in his home country. (For video of Torres, see here. Also, more Robbie Rogers to Philly speculation here.)

Union manager Peter Nowak told the Inquirer for today’s paper that he had a wish list of 50 to 60 players as early as July.
