Independence head coach Paul Riley has been named WPS Coach of the Year ahead of Sunday’s playoff match against Washington Freedom.

The Independence finished the WPS regular season with a 4-1 loss to FC Gold Pride, their fourth loss in a row. The Washington Freedom secured fourth place and a playoff berth against the Independence on Sunday, September 19th in West Chester with a 1-0 victory over Atlanta Beat.
