Toronto FC (3-8-4, 13 points) welcome Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia Union (9-3-3, 30 points) to BMO Field on Wednesday evening for the club’s 300th MLS regular season home match.

Scouting Report: Toronto FC

TFC enter the midweek clash following a pair of dramatically different results: a dominant 6-1 away victory over CF Montréal, followed by a narrow 2-1 home loss to Nashville SC.

On May 17, Toronto delivered a statement win in their Rivalry Week matchup, routing CF Montréal 6-1. Federico Bernardeschi and Theo Corbeanu each netted a brace, while Tyrese Spicer and Ola Brynhildsen added one apiece. The six-goal outburst marked a club record for most goals scored in an MLS match.

A week later, TFC fell just short in a late comeback effort against Nashville SC, losing 2-1 at BMO Field. Sam Surridge struck twice for the visitors, in the 57th and 89th minutes. Jonathan Osorio, returning from injury, scored a stunning stoppage-time goal from distance—assisted by Charlie Sharp, who registered his first for the club—but it proved too late to change the outcome.

Historically, Toronto FC hold a 14W-11L-8T record in 33 regular season meetings with the Union and are unbeaten in the last four home matchups dating back to October 2021. The Reds will aim to extend that streak and build on last July’s home victory over Philadelphia.

Injury Report: Kobe Franklin (Out – Ankle), Nicksoen Gomis (Out – Lower Body), Deandre Kerr (Out – Ankle), Richie Laryea (Out – Lower Body), Markus Cimermancic (Questionable – Lower Body), Raoul Petretta (Questionable – Ankle)

Disciplinary Summary: Federico Bernardeschi (Out – Yellow Card Accumulation), Kosi Thompson (Out – Yellow Card Accumulation)

Scouting Report: Philadelphia Union

Head Coach Bradley Carnell and his squad head into their midweek matchup riding a seven-game unbeaten streak in MLS play, bolstered by two additional victories in the Open Cup. Undefeated in May, the team is aiming to cap off this final stretch before a two-week break by extending their unbeaten run to 11 matches across all competitions.

Ahead of their trip, Carnell offered insight into how the club plans to maintain its strong away form. “We’ve got two back-to-back matches, so we’re staying on the road together,” Carnell explained. “It’s a chance to bolster the squad—we’re bringing extra players, keeping a large traveling group to maintain that team spirit and high energy. We’ve felt really confident away from home.”

Among those making the trip is three-time MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Blake, who’s been cleared to return after missing six games with an injury.

“He trained with us this morning,” Carnell said. “He’s even doing a bit of extra work on the field, which is great to see. So yes, we’re planning to have Dre in the squad, at least until he’s called up for the Jamaican National Team.”

With a full-strength roster and just days remaining before the international break, the Union will look to kick off their road trip with a win in Toronto for the first time since 2019.

Matchup to Watch: Tai Baribo vs TFC Defense

With Toronto FC conceding 20 goals so far this season, Tai Baribo will be a key figure to watch as he looks to exploit a vulnerable back line. The Union forward brings sharp movement and a poacher’s instinct inside the box—traits that could spell trouble for a Toronto defense still searching for consistency.

Player to Watch: Andre Blake

Andre Blake is officially back in action after missing six matches due to injury—and his return couldn’t come at a better time. Cleared to play and back in full training, Blake brings leadership, composure, and world-class shot-stopping ability to a Philadelphia Union side aiming to stay unbeaten as they hit the road. All eyes will be on the veteran keeper as he looks to make an immediate impact between the posts.

Prediction: Union  2-1  Toronto FC

Philadelphia’s strong form and unbeaten run give them the edge heading into Toronto, despite not having won there since 2019. With Andre Blake back in goal and momentum on their side, the Union are poised to grind out a tough 2-1 victory on the road and keep their streak alive heading into the break.

I think that Bernardeschi being out due to yellow card accumulation is a huge plus for the Union. Winning in the road is never easy, but this should be three points for Philly.

  2. This was an amazing prediction! Great job!!
