Philly Soccer 6 organizer Johnson Bowie has announced the format for its upcoming Spring Philly Soccer 6 Cup. Each team will play in two pod games, with play beginning on Friday, March 14, and will play one match in the cup tournament on Saturday, April 12 in a format similar to the Big 5 basketball tournament format. The five Philadelphia-area men’s teams welcome Rider to the group for this Cup, as the teams of Drexel, La Salle, Saint Joseph’s, Temple and Villanova will also compete in the spring tournament.

The North Pod will be comprised of La Salle, Rider and Temple, with the first game scheduled for Friday, March 14 at 7:00 p.m. as Rider hosts Temple. La Salle plays its opening game two weeks later at home at 7:00 p.m. against Rider, and Temple and La Salle will conclude pod play on Friday, April 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Temple’s campus. All pod games will be hosted at the respective host’s soccer stadiums on their campuses.

Villanova, Saint Joseph’s, and Drexel make up the South Pod, with the opening game scheduled for March 14 between Villanova and Drexel, with Drexel hosting. Villanova hosts Saint Joseph’s on Saturday, March 29, before pod play concludes April 4 at Drexel between Saint Joseph’s and Drexel. All times are TBD, and similar to the North Pod games, all games will be held at the respective host’s soccer stadiums.

After the group stage matches are completed, the first-place pod teams will play in the first-place game, the second-place teams in each pod will play in the third-place game, and the third-place teams in each pod will play in the fifth-place game. These games will be held on Saturday, April 12 at the USFS Complex, the official training field complex of the MLS club Philadelphia Union. The first-, third-, and fifth-place games kick off simultaneously at 8:00 p.m.
