Lower league recap: Championship edition

This weekend is a big weekend in amateur lower league soccer as league champions will be determined in three different national leagues.

We figured this would be a good opportunity to recap which teams are battling it out for their respective league titles, and who has already been crowned champion in 2022.

United Premier Soccer League (UPSL)

-Local team(s) that played in UPSL: Philadelphia Lone Star F.C.

League championship update: The UPSL semi-finals and final are being played at historic Columbus Crew Stadium. The semi-finals are on Friday, August 5th and the final is on Sunday, August 7th.

  • Semi-final: Beaman United FC vs Queensboro FC II at 5:30 p.m.
    • Queensboro FC II from New York City were the Northeast American division champions, which is the division that Lone Star F.C. was in. They are the second team of future USL Championship side Queensboro FC.
    • Beaman United FC from Nashville come into the game with two star forwards in Eryk Fernandez (14 goals) and Seth Poku (12 goals) who will be looking to help their squad advance to the finals.
  • Semi-final: Orange County FC vs Dodge City Toros at 8:30 p.m.
    • Dodge City Toros from Kansas have only one defeat all season and scored 35 goals in 10 regular season games.
    • Not to be outdone, Orange County FC based out of Irvine California, have scored 42 goals in 12 games.

National Premier Soccer League (NPSL)

-Local team(s) that played in NPSL: Atlantic City F.C., Philadelphia Lone Star F.C., Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals, West Chester United.

League championship update: FC Motown vs Crossfire Redmond on Saturday August 6th at 7:30 p.m.

  • FC Motown from Morristown, N.J. will be hosting the championship game. FC Motown won the Keystone Conference which is the division that our local teams competed in.
  • Crossfire Redmond from Washington entered the NPSL playoffs as a wild card team but have been on a tear since the playoffs began.

USL League Two (USL2)

-Local team(s) that played in USL2: Ocean City Nor’easters, Philadelphia Lone Star F.C., West Chester United.

League championship update: Ventura County Fusion vs Long Island Rough Riders on Saturday August 6th at 10:00 p.m.

  • Ventura County Fusion from Ventura California will be hosting the championship game. They will be seeking their second USL2 title.
  • The Long Island Rough Riders have been in existence since 1994 and have battled Ocean City at various points over the years due to the teams previously being in a division together.

-The final can be watched on the Eleven Sports app or website.

Eastern Premier Soccer League (EPSL)

-Local team(s) that played in EPSL: Danubia SC, Kensington SC, Philadelphia Heritage, Salone FC.

League championship update: Northern Virginia FC (NOVA FC) won the EPSL Championship.

NISA Nation

-Local team(s) that played in NISA Nation: Atlantic City F.C.

League championship update: NISA Nation crowned four regional champions: Club De Lyon FC – Florida Region; New Jersey Alliance FC – Northeast Region; Battleborn FC – Pacific Region; Capo FC – Southwest Region.

National Independent Soccer Association (NISA)

-Local team(s) that played in NISA: No local

League championship update: The NISA regular season is still underway and the playoffs will take place starting in October.

National Amateur Cup
  • The United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) National Amateur Cup will also be taking place this weekend. The four regional winners are competing this weekend with the semi-finals on Saturday August 6th and the final on Sunday August 7th.
  • The teams competing are: NOVA FC, Bavarian United, ASC New Stars and Los Angeles Strikers.

-The winner of the National Amateur Cup qualifies for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
