PSP photographers have strived to cover the action in another COVID-impacted season. With some highs and lows, it was another overall good year for the Philadelphia Union. There was the strong showing in the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League but a poor start to the MLS season, almost losing Monteiro mid-season but coming back and finishing second in the East, and a deep run in the playoffs only to be hampered by COVID. Over the season we have introduced a couple of new photographers. We hope you enjoyed the coverage and offer the following recap of the 2021 season.

The year started off with a bang as Paul Rudderow covered the 4-0 Union win over Deportivo Saprissa in the Champions League match.

Marjorie Elzey was on hand for the disappointing 1-2 loss to Inter Miami.

Marjorie continued PSP’s coverage of the Champions League as the Union defeated Atlantic United FC in penalty kicks 1-1 (4-1).

Paul was back in action as the Union defeated The New York Red Bulls 1-0 in a very chippy game.

Paul continued coverage of an easy 3-0 win over the Portland Timbers.

With capacity restrictions lifted, Marjorie was not only able to capture the Union’s 1-0 win but was also able to captured fan in the stands.

Marjorie traveled to Red Bull Arena to cover a testy 1-1 tie with the New York Red Bulls.

Daniel Gajdamowicz covered the rain delayed Union 2-1 defeat of D. C. United.

Marjorie was on hand as the Union could only draw 1-1 against a 10 man Chicago Fire.

Marjorie continued great work as the Union had another convincing 3-0 win over Toronto FC.

Paul was on hand for the Union 1-0 win over New York City FC as Alejandro Bedoya netted his first goal of the year.

Marjorie covered a card plagued 1-1 draw with CF Montréal.

Marjorie took to the road once more to cover the 3-1 loss to D.C. United.

New comer photographer Howie Pollard covered the frustrating 1-0 loss to New England Revolution.

Paul was able to make it back to cover the second half of the Champions League 2-0 (4-0) loss to Club America.

Howie’s second game got the Union back to winning ways with a 3-1 defeat of Orlando City SC.

Another PSP newcomer photographer, Stephen Speer, cut his teeth on the Unions 1-0 win over Atlantic United.

Stephen continued with the coverage of the 3-0 Navy win over Army.

Howie was on hand for Carli Lloyd’s farewell 0-0 match between Lloyd’s Gotham FC and Washington Spirit.

Stephen covered the last regular season home game as the Union defeated FC Cincinnati 2-0.

With the start of the playoffs Stephen had a front row seat to see Glesnes hit a banger to lift the Union 1-0 over the New York Red Bulls.

Marjorie and Stephen teamed up to cover the 1 (2)-1 (0) penalty kick win over Nashville SC.

Marjorie and Stephen once again teamed up to record the COVID-depleted Union’s defeat by New York City FC in the Eastern Conference playoff final.
