In the latest KYW Philly Soccer Show pod, KYW’s Greg Orlandini and PSP’s Mike Servedio are joined by Sean Doyle from Philadelphia Union PDL-affiliate Reading United, to talk about this Friday’s MLS SuperDraft.
While the Union’s first pick is deep in the second round, there is still a chance to unearth a gem. Sean also talks about some of the players with local connections that will be available in the draft this year.
After that, Greg and Mike look at the Union’s recent signings. After a slow start to the offseason, recent days have seen two international signings. First the Union signed in Giliano Wijnaldum, a Dutch defender who came through the AZ Alkmaar academy, where Earnie Stewart used to be Director of Football Affairs. The young defender looks to slot into the left back position, long an unsettled spot on the team’s roster.
Earlier this week, the Union announced the signing of English forward Jay Simpson, who last played for Leyton Orient in League 2 in England. The London native came through the Arsenal youth system and is expected to give some scoring punch.
