Derrick Jones could be one of the building blocks of the Philadelphia Union’s future, and he the guest on the latest edition of the KYW Philly Soccer Show.
Jones, an 18 year-old native of Ghana, joins KYW’s Greg Orlandini and CBS-3’s Kevin Kinkead on the KYW Philly Soccer Show to talk about being the first-ever player signed by the Union’s USL team, Bethlehem Steel.
After that, Greg and Kevin discuss some of the player moves the Union have made this week, from the acquisition of midfielder Chris Pontius from DC United for cash, to the transfer of Cristian Maidana and Andrew Wenger to Houston Dynamo for cash and a first round pick in the 2016 MLS Super Draft. The team is also set to introduce new Sporting Director Earnie Stewart to the media on Thursday.

MLS needs to schedule better. To do this, keep an even number of teams in the league. Schedule everyone to play within 2 days of each other like in the EPL. Then you can schedule a few more 3 games in a week situations, but doing it such that all teams are playing them, preferably with all those games being in the same in conference so you don’t have game in LA on Saturday and Philly on Wednesday. Then you can end the season a month earlier and have MLS Cup the week before the November international break. Also, weekend postseason games need to be on Saturday rather than Sunday.
.
On a Separate note, I’m hoping your big guest next week has the initials ES.

Here’s to hoping we never have to hear Greg say “May-donna” ever again.
