Teams to watch
September 22, 2014: Roxborough continues undefeated, edging Edison 2-1. Key to the team’s success has been the defensive play of Sekou Camara. While he wants to play offense, he has dropped into the back line for the sake of his team and his commitment to their success has paid off. Goalkeeper Collin Yeager was also big in the close game against Edison. Roxborough will test themselves against programs relegated from B Division when they face Science Leadership Academy and Swenson. While these will be tough tests, Roxborough is looking forward to the challenge, and the chance at promotion that a result would give them.
September 22, 2014: La Salle fought back from down a goal to win 2-1 against St. Joes. The Inquirer’s Kate Harmon has a recap. Coach Bob Peffle must have given quite a halftime talk.
September 26, 2014: La Salle bookended its week with big wins, beating Judge 2-1. Read more here. The two results will give the Explorers confidence that they can play with anyone.
Public League C Division
Rosh Hashanah gave the Public League a short week and less soccer games. Science Leadership Academy continued winning, beating Bodein 7-1. Swenson also brought out the Monday hammer, scoring seven against KIPP DuBois and earning the shutout. Next week SLA meets Roxborough in a game with playoff implications.
Public League B Division
September 23, 2014: Furness continues undefeated, beating MLK 5-0. Ben Franklin also continued winning, defeating Kensington 6-1. The two teams will meet in almost the last week of regular season play.
Public League A Division
September 22, 2014: Northeast steered to another comfortable win over Fels, 4-1. Central continued undefeated in league play, besting Olney with a close 4-3 result. Olney fought back a number of times but the whistle ended the game before they could find an equalizer. Prep Charter got a much needed 3-2 win against Lincoln. PACS used their scoring boots to work six goals past Palumbo. Bartram will rejoice as they posted their first win, a 1-0 result against South Philly.
September 24, 2014: PACS scored another six goals and kept the shutout against South Philly.
