The bigger the stage, the better the performance.

Harrisburg City traveled out west this past weekend to play Sacramento Republic FC in hopes of picking up their first win of the season. However it would be no easy task, as the Islanders were set to play in front of a record-setting 20,231 fans for Sacramento’s first ever home game. Every seat at Hughes Stadium was sold well in advance of kick-off, but none of this had an effect on the Harrisburg players.

Harrisburg was hot right from the start, as Robbie Derschang scored just five minutes into the game. Sacramento would answer later on in the half and the teams went into the break tied at 1 goal a piece. It didn’t take long for the Islanders to regain the lead though, as Swarthmore College alum Morgan Langley scored the eventual game winner in the 52nd minute.

Langley wasn’t the only player with local ties to shine in the victory. Jason Pelletier and Colin Zizzi logged a full 90 minutes, with Jimmy McLaughlin and Garrett Pettis providing help from the bench. HCI will play the Charleston Battery this Friday (7 pm, NSCAA TV, YouTube), and will look to build off of a strong performance from the weekend.
