After only two games into this year’s Norwegian Tippeligaen campaign, Lancaster, Pa., native Zarek Valentin’s season appears to be over. The Bodø/Glimt right back, who joined the then second-tier side on loan from Montreal last season, suffered a torn left Achilles tendon in training on Wednesday.

The local lad helped Bodø/Glimt earn promotion to Norway’s top flight last season after four years in the second division, playing 25 games for the side (all starts) while contributing to 15 clean sheets. Valentin shared the news on Twitter:

Though the last round of the Tippeligaen will be played in early November, such an injury generally requires about six months of recovery, with additional time to regain match fitness. Surgery is set for today.

Bodø/Glimt head coach Jan Halvor Halvorson told Norweigian newspaper Avisa Nordland, “Of course it is bitter, but there is nothing we can do about it if the Achilles is torn. We just have to build him up again.”

In other news:

  • Saturday’s matchup between Houston and Dallas took a serious turn when, in the 60th minute, Houston defender, and Pine Grove, Pa. native David Horst, committed a sliding tackle that would controversially see him ejected from the game. Trailing 1-0 after an hour of play, Dallas capitalized on the man advantage to hang four on Houston in the final 30 minutes.
  • LA Galaxy defender and Philadelphia’s own Dan Gargan racked up his first assist of the season in Sunday’s derby with Chivas USA. Fed a long ball from teammate Stefan Ishizaki, Gargan made a quick cross to an onrushing Robbie Keane to provide the opening goal in LA’s 3-0 win.
  • Finally, New Hope, PA native Steve Neumann earned his first minutes in MLS play this Saturday, coming on as a late game sub for Daigo Kobayashi in New England’s 2-0 loss to D.C. Here’s to many more appearances for the local youth standout!
