For the second-straight week, history was made by a local team. Key conference games continued as conference post-season tournaments begin in less than a month.
As always, if you aren’t seeing something you want to see comment below.
Capital Athletic Conference
York (Pa.): York extended their win streak to eight games with a 4-0 win over Marymount. Behind a 29-4 shot advantage, four different Spartans kept York perfect (4-0-0) in CAC play.
Wesley: Coming off a 2-1 loss to Mary Washington, Wesley earned a big 1-0 conference victory against Penn State-Harrisburg. Penn State remains winless in CAC play.
Centennial Conference
Swarthmore: After losing to Neumann University 1-0, Swarthmore regained composure and defeated conference foe McDaniel, 3-1. McDaniel went up 1-0 early on, but three different Swarthmore players scored with Chris Lynn’s 90th minute goal capping off the scoring.
Dickinson: Jamie Martin and Javier Mena scored less than two minutes apart and led the Red Devils past Gettysburg, 2-1. They continued their winning streak with a 3-0 win against Eastern Mennonite. Mena scored two of the three goals in this game.
Ursinus: Ryan Butler’s two-goal performance led Ursinus past Washington College, 3-1.
Franklin and Marshall: After being scoreless for 80 minutes, Johns Hopkins went up 1-0. However, F&M’s Max Watson scored an equalizer 2:50 later and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Haverford: The Fords earned a hard-fought scoreless tie against conference opponents Muhlenberg, before falling to Rutgers-Camden 1-0.
Commonwealth Conference
Messiah: In their last regular season meeting as conference rivals, Messiah traveled to Elizabethtown for the “Marshmallow Bowl.” Check out video recaps from the CBS and ABC affiliates in Harrisburg. Legend has it that over two decades ago, an E-twon scouting report called Messiah soft, and that is how the tradition of throwing marshmallows began. Well, how the tides have turned. In the 2013 Marshmallow Bowl, Messiah ousted Elizabethtown 3-0 behind goals from Jeremy Payne, Josh Wood, and Robby Johnson. With the victory, Coach Brad McCarty won his 100th game at the helm. To put this in perspective, McCarty has won 100 games in less than five seasons, averaging 22 wins per season, which does not include the 2013 season. Messiah continued their winning ways with a 8-0 victory over Alvernia. During Homecoming Weekend, Messiah College Athletics will honor the life of legendary men’s soccer coach Layton Shoemaker, who passed away unexpectedly last January. Without Shoemaker’s service and dedication to the program, Messiah Soccer would not be where it is today.
Elizabethtown: The Blue Jays defeated Arcadia 2-0 behind goals from Kyle Fowler and David Boretti. Information on E-town’s exit from the MAC and Commonwealth Conferences to the Landmark can be found here.
Lycoming: Due to torrential rain, the Lycoming-Widener match was moved from PPL Park to Widener’s campus. Widener went up on a 76th minute PK, but Lycoming’s Moises Lazo’s 15 yard blast leveled the game for good at 1-1. Lycoming then defeated Albright 2-0.
Widener: The Pride fell to Hood 3-2. Hood’s Jullano scored the golden-goal five minutes into overtime.
Lebanon Valley College: The Dutchmen lost to Alvernia 2-1 before recovering with a 1-1 tie against Stevenson.
Freedom Conference
Eastern: Eastern defeated DeSales 3-0 behind goals from Eric Giovagnoli, Josh Cirocco, and Austin Stover. The Eagles then fought to a 0-0 tie against Manhattanville..
Misericordia: The Cougars lost 3-0 to Manhattanville and 1-0 against King’s.
Wilkes: They defeated FDU-Florham 3-1 behind Ryan Joyce’s two assist day.
Desales: The Bulldogs lost to FDU-Florham 4-2 after scoring just 29 seconds in.
Landmark Conference
Catholic: The Cradinals defeated Susquehanna 2-1 behind goals from Hunter Horvath and Kevin Romano.
Juniata: The Eagles earned a 1-1 tie against Goucher before defeating Pitt-Greensburg 3-1.
Scranton: Their scheduled match against Merchant Marine was postponed due to the government shutdown.
Moravian: After losing a key conference game against Drew 2-0, the Greyhounds defeated Valley Forge Christian 13-0. Yes, this is not a typo, but the actual result. Five different players scored twice in the victory.
New Jersey Athletic Conference
Rutgers-Camden: Rutgers remained perfect with their 0-0 tie against Montclair St.
Rowan: The Prof’s defeated NJAC rival New Jersey City in a 6-2 victory
