Born in Atlanta before moving to Allentown, PA, recent USMNT U-17 call-up Danny Barbir has managed to make a name for himself. The 6-3, 15-year-old defender is a former member of the Players Development Academy and Philadelphia Union Academy, but has drawn interest from some big name clubs over the last few months. Linked with European clubs like England’s Fulham, Norwich City, and Chelsea, Malaga of Spain, and Sporting CP of Portugal, it appears Barbir recently signed on with English new money giants Manchester City. While there has been no official announcement from Manchester City, the deal appears to have been made in August and Babir tweeted he was on his way to England and a picture of his new school. His Twitter profile also confirms that he is with the English side:
With links to such big-name clubs, it appears that Philadelphia didn’t really stand a chance to sign the standout as a Home Grown Player.
Babir is now with the US team in Spain for the AGS Cup.
