It has been a tough pre-season on the field for the Philadelphia Union, with two games and no wins yet. But we have one of the bright spots this week on the latest KYW Philly Soccer Show podcast.
KYW’s Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch are joined by Union midfielder Leo Fernandes.
The Brazilian-born, Long Island-raised player scored the tying goal against Orlando City in the Union’s first preseason game, last Saturday. Greg and Eli talk with Fernandes about his upbringing, the tough competition for spots on the team, and where he hopes to fit with the Union.
Greg and Eli then shift their attention to the US National team, which last week dropped its first World Cup qualifier on the road against Honduras, 2-1. Clint Dempsey had the lone tally for the US as they struggled against a very energetic Hondurans.
The loss sets up a must-win for the Yanks as they prepare to face off against Costa Rica in Colorado.
