If you happen to be in Northern Liberties for holiday festivities or shopping, PSP photographer Nicolae Stoian has a window exhibit of some of his photographs on display at 628 North Second Street.
The exhibit includes work he has done for the PSP covering the Philadelphia Union as well for the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace and Nike covering the 2010 Homeless World Cup in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Some of the photos were previously on display in Rio at a show following the Homeless World Cup.
One of the photos on display has been selected to be in a show about the Homeless World Cup that will open next week at UEFA headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. That show will travel to the International Olympic Committee’s headquarters in Lausuanne, Switzerland in March 2011 and to United Nations headquarters in New York after that.
Back in Northern Liberties, Nicolae’s window show includes pictures of PPL Park at sunset, a pregame shot of a Union starting XI, and some action against Columbus Crew. Photos from the Homeless World Cup include action from the opening game of the tournament between eventual winners Brazil and Chile, Ghana’s goalie training on Copacabana Beach, supporters at the tournament and more.
You can see the window display at 628 North Second Street, the offices of Old City Publishing through the end of the month. (Full disclosure: I work for Old City Publishing, a publisher of scholarly science and humanities journals and monographs. Old City Publishing also sponsors West Philly FC, for which two PSP writers play, in the Casa League.)
