KYW’s Philly Soccer Show: Paul Riley

This week’s edition of KYW’s Philly Soccer Show features Philadelphia Independence head coach Paul Riley, who was WPS coach of the year after leading the expansion Independence to the league final last month.

Riley talks about his team’s first season, the challenges of leading an expansion team in a fledgling league, the league’s prospects for the future, and the rise from nowhere of some of his top players, like striker Amy Rodriguez. (And, it turns out, Riley is a big Liverpool fan, which makes for some really funny aspects of the interview.)

Co-hosts Greg Orlandini and Dan Walsh also talk about Philadelphia Union’s prospects for the rest of the year and next year, the murderer’s row of games at PPL Park over the next seven days, and the U.S. national team matches that take place during that time.

Riley is a fantastic guest – I look forward to hearing more from him ahead of the next season. Well done guys, this is another great interview full of information I’ve not heard elsewhere.

    • Riley was a blast. Love how we got him going with the question about Liverpool. But what a fantastic student of the game. Coaches are great to talk to, they just see things we as fans never see.
