The MLS SuperDraft returned to the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Thursday.
KYW’s Greg Orlandini and PSP’s Eli Pearlman-Storch break down the Philadelphia Union’s picks in the latest edition of the KYW Philly Soccer Show.
The team was without a first round pick, having traded the 10th pick to Kansas City for forward CJ Sapong earlier in the offseason, and so didn’t make a selection until the middle of the second round.
But with the 31st pick they took Dzenan Catic, a 6’3′ Bosnian born, USA raised, forward. He went to try his luck in Germany at Kaiserslautern after high school and returned to the US to attended Davenport University in Michigan. There he had two record-setting seasons, scored 63 goals over his two years at the school, and also being NAIA National Player of the Year and capturing a national championship.
Later in the round, the Union took midfielder Eric Bird, who won an NCAA title with University of Virginia last year.
