KYW Philly Soccer Show: Wenger power in win over San Jose

Rest and some home cooking were just what the doctor ordered, as the Philadelphia Union picked up a thrilling 4-2 home win over San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday and the latest edition of the KYW Philly Soccer Show is here to break it all down for you. KYW’s Greg Orlandini and PSP’s Eli Pearlman-Storch are joined by PSP writer Adam Cann to talk about the win.

The Union were powered to victory by a Man of the Match performance by Andrew Wenger. The Lancaster-native, who has struggled since arriving at the Union in the trade that sent Jack McInerney to Montreal Impact, dominated the Quakes with his two goals and powerful runs into the attacking area.

The game also saw the debut of Algerian goalkeeper Rais Mbolhi who, despite some shaky communication with his defenders, put in a solid game for the home side

  1. My thoughts on M’hobli. He will be here for a few years. We needed a veteran GK to help with MacMath and Blake. Who ever we keep will need guidance. I hope we keep MacMath as a second keeper and loan out Blake. If we keep Blake I hope we sign Steffen as a homegrown player. Rais is good and I think was shocked by the level of play in the MLS in his first game.

    • I don’t want him to leave, but I really don’t see MacMath in a Union uniform next year. Mboli’s transfer was supposed to happen at the beginning of the season and they were going to ship Zack then (which makes more sense with the Blake signing). I don’t think the FO will hold onto him. I hope he tries things overseas for a bit.

  2. If Maidana can go then play him. Put Noguiera and Okugo together and drop Edu back with Valdes with Williams RB and Gaddis LB. Have Wenger, Casey, and Le Toux in their starting positions. JC should go with his best starting lineup. Ribeiro needs to be in the 18 to sub for Maidana. I would sub Brown in for Casey. If he seriously wants to be the Union manager then he’ll manage like he wants the job.

  3. The homegrown players not getting minutes is a huge problem. Pfeffer and McLaughlin should be in the 18 over Cruz and Fabinho. I would have no problem with either of them as subs for the midfield.

  4. I have learn a few excellent stuff here. Definitely worth bookmarking for revisiting.
I surprise how much effort you set to create this type of magnificent
    informative site.
